![]() ![]() We decided on the Carmelita, made with caramel, nuts, and chocolate oh and oatmeal. Teresa is the baker and lunch maker and everything looked great which made our decision difficult. Teresa is a photographer and her work is for sale along with Mark’s jewelry. Both being artists, they incorporated their art with coffee. Owners Teresa and Mark moved from New Mexico to Dolores to open a coffeehouse because there was none. In addition free Wi-Fi is offered which makes it a great place to hang out for coffee and sweets or maybe lunch. The space is small yet welcoming with Teresa giving us local information and things to do in the area. To our surprise and happiness we found a cozy coffeehouse with tables, chairs, books and art by the owners. We thought it was a drive through coffeehouse but there was an entrance so we walk in. Our choices were a hotel restaurant, a BBQ restaurant, or The Pony Expresso. So it was in Dolores, CO after a day of touring ruins and trains. Now as we travel we look for those coffeehouses that give us that afternoon pleasure of fresh coffee and visiting. It was an enjoyable occasion where we discussed the day, learned about our heritage, and looked to the future. We spent many an afternoon having coffee with our grandparents and parents. Staff was on point though, only reason they didn't get a 1.“ The Pony Expresso – More than just a coffee shop….a bakery, a gallery, a place to connect, unwind and enjoy.”Ĭoffee is embedded in our Cajun Culture. This is a place to order shots and a burger, not whatever it's selling itself as online. Look, I get pub food is pub food and it has its place but don't have a website that makes you look like The Boathouse when you're serving food equivalent to a bar night at the Legion. I felt like I'd choked down a paper towel I'd just used to mop up a grease spill. The coleslaw was just a pile of watery mayo, the filet was paper thin, the batter was soft and oozing oil, and the tarter was not even tarter. The fish and chips I had were disgusting, but after sampling my date's food which was equally unimpressive Sysco slop, I figured exchanging it wouldn't make a difference. The splash page reads, "The Pony Restaurant provides guests with a fine dining experience presented in typical rustic Pemberton fashion." I call BS. It gives the impression that it's nearly farm to table with high end execution on traditional dishes. When researching where to go for our trip, The Pony was one of the reasons I picked Pemberton because of their website. Kudos to whoever does the hiring and training. ![]() (Just kidding, but you know what we mean). if we were still in the business of hiring staff, we would have loved to poach anyone who was working that day. The server we found inside told us that there was no supervisor onsite until the evening, which means that the staff was motivated and doing a great job, even without a boss around. In fact, everyone we came in contact with was excellent, so much so that we went to find the manager or supervisor on duty to commend them. Rafe was wonderful, and took great care to make sure our visit was perfect. It was wonderful to be able to sit outside on the patio - last time with Covid we had to do takeaway. both had burgers, which are absolutely the best in our opinion. We were so happy to have the same great food and service as our previous visit. We stopped here on a road trip for lunch, and it's been 3 years since our last visit, so we were interested to see how the visits compared.
